Summary
Quantification of Vitexin and Fingerprint Identification of Passiflora foetida Growing in Different Location in Vietnam by HPLC-DAD
Passiflora foetida is used in folk medicine for treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia and tension-related asthma. In this study, quantification method was developed with isocratic eluent by HPLC-PDAD conditions: 0.1% formic acid - acetonitril (88.5:11.5), C18, 1 ml/min flow rate, 35 oC column temperature. Vitexin in leaves of Passiflora foetida collected in many regions in Vietnam was quantified. The yield of vitexin in leaves was 0.15 - 0.4% and in stem was about 0.005%. The form of chromatography is similar and used for fingerprint qualification. The low yield of vitexin in stems showed that the rate of stem and leaf is very important and it should be attended when plant is collected
Key words: Passiflora foetida; vitexin; xylosyl vitexin; HPLC; quantification; fingerprint.
