Summary
Study on Choleretic Effect and Hepatoprotective Activity of Clausena sanki J.F. leaves
Clausena sanki J.F. leaves have been used as the spice in some baked dishes. In this study, aqueous extract and ethanol extract of Clausena sanki J. F. leaves were investigated the choleretic effect and hepatoprotective activity on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in mice. The results showed that the ethanol extract at doses of 5 g, 10 g and 15 g/kg body weight significantly increased bile levels by 31.64%, 30.11% and 24.29%, respectively. While bile levels were not significantly increased by aqueous extract at these doses. The ethanol extract at doses of 5 g, 10 g/kg and the aqueous extract at dose of 15 g/kg inhibited the elevation of serum ALT, AST activities and bilirubin levels induced by CCl4, without statistical significance.
Key words: Clausena sanki J. F.; choleretic effect; hepatoprotective.
