Summary
Effects of Aqueous Extract from Mimosa pudica L.
on Sephacryl S-200-Induced lung inflammation in rats
This study was designed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract fromMimosa pudica L. on Sephacryl S-200 induced lung inflammation. Sephacryl S-200 suspension (5 mg/kg) was intratracheally injected to rats to induced lung oedema which was accompanied by an increase in infiltrating of eosinophils into bronchoaveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung tissue. Mimosa pudica (2,6 g/kg, po) and dexamethasone (0,5 mg/kg, po) significantly inhibited lung oedema and infiltration of total lymphocytes and eosinophil into BALF and lung tissues. These results demonstrate that aqueous extract from Mimosa pudica exhibited the anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting infiltration of inflammatory cells and may be an useful option in lung pathologies in which bronchiolar inflammation is a feature.
