Summary

A New Compound, 1b,3b,12b,20(s)-Tetrahydroxydammar-24-ene, Isolated from Gynostemma compressum

and its AMPK and ACC Activation in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

A new dammarane saponin, 1β,3β,12β,20(S)-tetrahydroxydammar-24-ene (1) together with three known compounds, including corchoionol C (2), 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (3), and gycomoside II (4) were isolated from the 80% ethanol extract of Gynostemma compressum X. X. Chen & D. R. Liang. Their chemical structures were determined by using extensive NMR data, mass spectroscopy, and comparing with published literature. The ability of the new compound to phosphorylate AMPK and ACC in 3T3-L1 cells was evaluated. Compound 1 (10 μM) upregulated p-ACC expression and induced the most significant change in p-AMPK expression. These results suggested that the new compound has potential effects on glucose and lipid metabolism.
