Summary
In vitro α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activity and In vivo Hypoglycemic Effect of Twig Extracts from Morus alba
The in vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of twig extracts of Morus alba samples collected in Bao Loc city, Lam Dong province from January to December (M1-M12) have been investigated. All of extracts showed in vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory effects. Of these, samples collected in December and January were the most active ones, with IC50 values of 18.851 µg/ml and 26.445 µg/ml, respectively. In vivo oral sucrose tolerance test in mice showed the serum glucose peaks of groups treated with these extracts at the doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg were significantly lowered than that of the normal control group and comparable to that of the positive control group (acarbose 10 mg/kg). Hence, the M. alba twigs harvested in January and December in Bao Loc city, Lam Dong province seem to be potential materials in postprandial blood glucose regulation in diabetic patients.
