Summary

Metabolites from the Nudibranch Dendrodoris fumata and their Anti-Microbial Activity

Chemical examination of the nudibranch mollusk Dendrodoris fumata resulted in the isolation and characterization of six steroids and two terpenoids from the methanol extract. Their structures were elucidated as 5α,6α-epoxy-3β,7α-dihydroxycholest-8(14)-ene (1), cholest-7-ene-3β,5α,6β-triol (2), 3β-hydroxycholesta-5,8-dien-7-one (3), cholest-7-ene-6-one-3β,5α,9α-triol (4), 5α,8α-epidioxy-cholest-6-en-3β-ol (5), 5α,8α-epidioxycholesta-6,9(11)dien-3β-ol (6), and 3α,6β-dihydroxy-1,1,5-trimethyl-8-oxo-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydrobenzofuran (7), and amijiol-7,10-diacetate (8), using 1D and 2D NMR experiments and comparison with reported data. The anti-microbial activity of the isolated metabolites against a selected panel of the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as a set of yeast molds, were also determined.
