Summary

Phenolic Metabolites from the Leaves and Stems of Dioscorea bulbifera with Anti-Inflammatory Activity

Phytochemical investigation of the leaves and stems of Dioscorea bulbifera resulted in isolation of seven phenolic compounds, including epicatechin (1), epigallocatechin (2), quercetin 3-neohesperidoside (3), benzyl glucopyranoside (4), prunasin (5), phenethyl glucoside (6), and syringaresinol (7). Their chemical structures (1 - 7) were elucidated by spectroscopic evidence, including 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectra in comparison with the literature data. In addition, compounds 1-3, 5, and 7 inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-stimulated BV2 microglial cells, with IC50 values ranging from 17.2 to 45.0 mM.
