Researching on Effects of Sowing Times and Plant Densities on the Growth, Development, Yield and Quality of Medicinal Materials of “Ban Au” (Hypericum perforatum L)
at Tam Dao Vinh Phuc
For long time ago,in Europe, Hypericum perforatum was used as medicinal materials (dry leaf, stem and flower) in which Hypericin contents is 0.04% to treat the depression disease. Nowaday, this herb is popular in Europe and America. In 2005, Hypericum was introducted to Viet Nam and was planted at Tam Dao Vinh Phuc. Because of effect of drug, it is neccesary to research techniques to develop and produce this herb. The experiments was conducted: (i) Effect of sowing time; (ii) effect of plant densities on growth, development, yield and quality of “Ban Au” (Hypericum perforatum L) at Tam Dao Vinh Phuc. The experiments were arranged by Random complete design (RCB) with 3 replications and area of each plot: 10m2.
The results showed that sowing time affected on growth period, growth capability, development and yield of Ban Au. Sowing at 15/9, the growth period was longest ( 290 days), high plant height (52,17 cm), high number of a pair of leaves(15,23 pair of leaves /plant), high number of primary branches (6,8 branches/plant) and number of secondary branches (14,6 branches/plant), higher dry mass accumulation (18,19 g/plant), obtained high net yield (27,08 ta/ha), highest content of hypericin (0,25% in stem and 1,52% in young stem with flower).
Plant densities affected on growth and development capability of Ban Au. At 250.000 plant per ha (20 x 20 cm) obtained the highest net yield (27,99 ta/ha). The lowest net yield obtained from plant density of 62 500 plants/ha with 20,26 ta/ha. The ratio of fresh/dry, of young stem/stem and leaves and hypericin content was not affected by plant densities.
