Research on the Constituents of Pepper essential oils

Water distilled essential oil from 15 pepper samples collected at Phu Quoc and Gia Lai provinces in Vietnam has been investigated by GCMS method. Oil yields were all in the range of 1.12- 2.35%. Among the 30 constituents characterized in the oil (representing 99.39%- 99.82% of the total components detected), δ-3-carene (12.47- 33.78 %), L-Limonen (14.99- 19.05%) and caryophyllene (12.72- 23.45%) are the major constituents.

Both oils were richer in monoterpenes (68.10- 81.23%) than sesquiterpenes (15.42- 29.27%).
