Summary

Hepatoprotective Effect of Lingzhi Extract on Rifampicin - and Isoniazid-induced Hepatotoxicity

Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) has been used extensively in traditional medicine to treat various diseases and conditions such as chronic bronchitis, hepatitis, hypertension, gout, hyperlipidemia, arthritis, asthma and cancer… Previously, we showed that lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum) extract protected hepatic cells from necrosis caused by acute carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) toxication [1] and prevented liver carcinogenesis induced by diethylnitrosamine and carbon tetrachloride [2], In the present study, we investigated the hepato-protective effect of lingzhi extract on rifampicin- and isoniazid-induced hepatic lesions, Research results showed that lingzhi extracts at concentrations of 15% or 30% were able to stabilize transaminase activity and protect liver from hepatitis caused by rifampicin and isoniazid.
