Studies on immunorestorative effect of some mushrooms species
In recent years some kinds of mushrooms from Ganoderma and Phellinus genera have been popularly used to treat a lot of diseases including cancer. To investigate adjuvant properties of these mushrooms, water extracts of Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat. and Phellinus sp. have been studied on immunorestorative effect in mice treated with Cyclophosphamide (CP). The results have shown that:
- Low and high doses (~10 and 40 g of raw material/kg of body weight) of water extracts from Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat. as well as high doses of water extracts from Phellinus sp. increased significantly the count of neutral white cells in peripheral blood and restored the rate of rosettes forming lymphocytes sensitive to the sheep red blood cells.
- Low and high doses (~10 and 40 g of raw material / kg of body weight) of water extracts from Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat. restored the rate of the plaque forming cells.
- Low dose of water extract from Phellinus sp. were synergistic with CP increasing its toxicity and killed 100% of mice. This result gives a warning of high toxicity of water extract from Phellinus sp. in combination with CP.
