Effects of Vietnamese Ginseng on Learning and Memory.
Using a Passive Avoidance Test in Mice
Memory recall was examined using the step-down passive avoidance task. The apparatus was designed and used for experimentation. Tanakan, standardized Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb 761) at the doses of 40 mg/kg and 80 mg/kg were evaluated on memory impairment induced by scopolamine (at the dose of 1 mg/kg) in mice, as a positive control. Vietnamese ginseng extract and its total saponins (at the doses of 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg) had the improving effects on scopolamine-induced impairment of learning and memory.
