Study of Effects of Traditional Processing Methods on Chemical Composition and Biological Activity of Drynaria bonii Rhizome

Cot toai bo (Drynaria bonii Christ.) is a traditional medicinal drug used for treating backpain, arthrosis and other joint disorders. Chemical analysis showed that Cot toai bo contains flavonoids, steroid saponins, tanins, sterols. Total flavonoid content is 0,60% and total saponin content is 3,71%. After processing by traditional method, total content  of flavonoids, saponins were reduced. But in rawmaterial proressed with rice alcohol (35%), the chemical constituents were reduced very little: flavonoids (15%), saponins (1,08%).

Pharmacological experiments on mice showed that Cot toai bo extracts have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
