Summary
Optimization of the Extraction of Total Flavonoids from Lac Tien (Passiflora foetida L.) Using the Response Surface Methodology
This study aims to optimize the extraction conditions of total flavonoids from Passiflora foetida L. using the reflux extraction method. The experimental layout is carried out according to the Box - Benhken design method. Using response surface methodology (RSM), an optimal model of the extraction process has been built with two objective functions: extraction efficiency (Y1) and total flavonoid content (Y2); four factors of extraction, which are ethanol concentration, extraction temperature, extraction time and extraction ratio, are studied. Based upon RSM data, the optimal conditions are as follows: ethanol concentration 71.7 (%, v/v), extraction temperature 68.09oC, extraction time 151.18 (minutes), and extraction ratio 25.2/1 (mL/g). At this condition, the extraction efficiency and total flavonoid content in the extract reach the maximum value of 14.95 ± 0.16% and 2.39 ± 0.09%, respectively.
