\n\tSummary
\n\tComparison of Hepatoprotective Effect Between Ganoderma lucidum (Leyss. ex Fr.) Karst. and Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat.
\n\tGanoderma applanatum is a basidiomycetes fungus belonging to the family of Polyporaceae. The fruit body has been used as anti-cancer traditional medicine in China and reported to have diverse physiological activities including anti-tumor, anti-virus, and immuno-stimulation. In Vietnam market, G. applanatum is believed to have hepatoprotective activities as same as G. lucidum. The present study examined the protective effects of G. applanatum compared to G. lucidum on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in mice. Two G. applanatum specimens (T2 and D07), and one specimen of G. lucidum (L1) were extracted with distilled water. The mice were administered orally with T2, D07 and L1 extracts (300 mg ⁄ kg of body weight) 1 week before CCl4 (0.2 ml/kg of body weight, i.p.) administration. The CCl4 challenge caused a marked increase in the levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase. The pretreatment with L1 was shown to possess a significant protective effect by lowering the serum aspartate and alanine aminotransferase.G. applanatum extracts (T2 and D07 specimens) were observed to be devoid of any hepatoprotective activity. The results showed that G. lucidum extracts exhibit potent hepatoprotective effects on CCl4 - induced liver damages in mice, and that the lack of hepatoprotective effects of G. applanatum may be due to the differences in chemical compositions.
