Summary
Screening for Cytotoxic Activity of three Polygonum Species
The cytotoxic activity of three Polygonum species including P. barbatum L., P. plebeium R.Br, P. perfoliatum L. gathered in Vietnam were investigated for the first time. Eleven extracts of different parts of three Polygonum species were evaluated for the cytotoxic activity against five human cancer cell lines, including HT-1080, MDA-MB 231, MCF-7/adr, MCF-7/TAMR, and Hela. Of these, the extracts of P. barbatum L., P. plebeium R.Br, and P. perfolium L. exhibited high potent cytotoxic activity showing a certain degree of selectivity against the indicated cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 5.1 to 19.9 µg/mL.
