Flavonoid Glycosides as Inhibitors of a-Amylase Isolated from the Leaves of Polyscias fruticosa
A phytochemical fractionation of the methanol extract of the leaves of Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms. led to the isolation of three flavonoid glycosides. By means of the spectroscopic methods including ESI-MS and 1D-NMR, the isolated compounds were determined to be quercitrin (1), afzelin (2) and kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (3). Compounds 1 and 3 showed strong a-amylase inhibitory activity with the IC50 values of 4.61 and 59.4 mg/ml, respectively.
