Effect of the Herbal Tea Extracted from Panax notoginseng and

Ganoderma lucidum on Immunodeficiency Model

Effect of the herbal tea extracted from Panax notoginseng and Ganoderma lucidum on cyclophosphamide-induced immunodeficiency was studied in mice. Cyclophosphamide at the single doses of 150-250 mg/kg significantly induced a decrease of white blood cells, neutrophils and an increase of lymphocytes. Besides, cyclophosphamide decreased spleen and thymus weights, which are the organs related to immune system. Phagocytic activity of macrophages was also inhibited by cyclophosphamide. The herbal tea (1.5-2.5 g/kg) administered for 5-8 days ameliorated cyclophosphamide-induced decrease in phagocytic activity of macrophages and increased spleen and thymus weights. However, the tea did not produce significant effect on cyclophosphamide-induced hemological changes.
