Summary
Antidiabetic Effect of Acclimatized Arctium lappa L.
Roots of burdock (Arctium lappa L. - RAL) have been used for treatment of diabetes in some countries such as China and Japan. However, no studies have been performed on the in vivo antidiabetic effects of roots from acclimatized burdock in Vietnam. This research aimed to evaluate the effects of RAL extract on diabetic mice induced by high fructose diet plus alloxan. The results showed that oral administration of RAL extracts in the doses of 20 g/kg and 40 g/kg for 20 days significantly decreased blood glucose in obese diabetic mice compared to those of the control obese diabetic group. In addition, RAL extracts at the doses of 20g/kg for 20 days and 40 g/kg for 10 days had an antioxidant effect by reducing hepatic MDA contents.
