Summary
Acute and Subchronic Toxicity of Anti-Hepatitis and Anti-Cirrhosis Hypatin from
Hypericum patulum Thunb. ex Murray
A new anti-hepatitis and anti-cirrhosis herbal product hypatin from Hypericum patulumThunb. ex Murray has been experimentally evaluated for acute toxicity in mice and subchronic toxicity in rabbits by oral administration. The results of acute toxicity test indicated that it’s impossible to determine LD50 of the product and infralethal dose (LD0) of hypatin is 5,0 g hypatin equivalent to 87,87 g dried raw material/kg body weight.
In the subchronic toxicity study rabbits were orally given 0,5 g hypatin/kg body weight/per day for 30 days. The blood hematological and biochemical analysis as well as histopathological examination of liver and kidney tissue showed no significant difference between treatment and control groups.
Hypatin is safe for use.
