Summary

Identification of Turmeric Diseases in Quang Ninh and Hung Yen Provinces of Vietnam

A disease survey and diagnosis was conducted to identify the composition of turmeric diseases from Dong Trieu district, Quang Ninh province and Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province in 2013 and 2014. The diseases included leaf blight (Pestalotiopsis gallica Steyaert), anthracnose (Colletotrichum capsici (Syd.) E. J. Butler & Bisby), leaf spot (Curvularia lunata (Wakker) Boedijn), sheath blight (Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn), rhizome rot (Erwinia carotovora (Jones) Holland) and root rot (Pythium spp.). The most economically important diseases were the root and rhizome rot diseases which involved two major pathogens, Pythium spp. and E. carotovora. These findings provide basic and essential information for further research on turmeric diseases and the appropriate control strategy to eliminate the loss from the diseases.
