\n\tSummary
\n\tIsolation of Ginsenoside-Rh1 in Higher Yield from Processed Vietnamese Ginseng
\n\tThe underground part of Panax vietnamensis has been used in raw forms for treating various diseases and for enhancing physical strength. In our previous studies, remarkable changes in saponin compositions were detected by comparative TLC and HPLC between fresh Vietnamese ginseng and that of the steamed one. This study investigated the change in saponin composition of processed Vietnamese ginseng by various isolation and analysis steps. Two among three isolated dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins were elucidated as 20(S) ginsenoside-Rh1 and 20(R) ginsenoside-Rh1 by using spectroscopic analyses including IR, MS and NMR. Ginsenoside-Rh1 was reported to be isolated in Vietnamese ginseng at very low yield (c.a. 0.02 %) [5, 6] . In our study, after steaming processed, ginsenoside Rh1 were remarkably produced (yield 0.5 %) and for the first time, two chiral molecules 20(S) and 20(R) ginsenoside Rh1 were isolated separately from Panax vietnamensis.
