\n\tVariation of Polyphenol and Hydroxycinnamic Acid Derivatives Contents in Two Varieties of Orthosiphon stamineus Grown inHanoi
\n\tRau meo (Orthosiphon stamineus Benth., Lamiaceae) is a medicinal herb trusted for many centuries for treating ailments of the kidney, bladder stone, urinary tract infection, liver and bladder problems, diabetes, rheumatism and gout. It is also used to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure.
\n\tIn the research, plant material was harvested at different phenological stages (before budding, full flowering, and after flowering) of the life cycle of the species. The contents of polyphenol and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives in samples were measured using spectrophotometric method. Results showed that the ranking of polyphenol and hydroxycinnamic acid contents in different phenological stages of two varieties of Orthosiphon stamineus from high to low was: after flowering > full flowering > before budding. Polyphenol and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives contents of Malaysian variety were higher than those of Vietnamese variety.
