\n\tStudy on Antioxydant Effects of Ganoderma colossum (Ganodermataceae)

\n

\n\tGanoderma lucidum (Lingzhi or Reishi) is a well-known mushroom with various pharmacological effects that has been used for health and longevity purposes. Ganoderma lucidum has been commonly suggested in East Asia as a potential candidate for prevention and treatment of different diseases, including cancer. However, till now there is a little report about the biological effects of Ganoderma colossum. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antioxydant activity and hepatoprotective effect of ethanol extract and aqueous extract of Ganoderma colossum on liver injury induced by cyclophosphamide (single dose at 150 mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneal injection) in mice. The free radical scavenging effect on the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH test) and the anti-lipid peroxydation effect (malonyl dialdehyde test) of these extracts were the highest at 2000 mg/ml, reached to 69% to 81% in DPPH test. Both ethanol extract and aqueous extract (at the doses equivalent to 2.5g and 5g raw material/kg body weight) produced the protective effects against cyclophosphamide-induced oxydative damage.
