\n\tEffects of Andrographolide Extracted from Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees. on MDR Mycobacterium tuberculosis

\n\tA diterpene lactone preparation (contained 95% andrographolide) extracted from Andrographis paniculata was tested for susceptibility on an international standard strain H₃₇RV and 50 strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from tuberculosis patients by WHO proportional method. The results indicated that all the tested strains, including the standard strain H₃₇RV, 20 strains susceptible to anti-tuberculosis drugs and 30 multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains (among them 19 strains were resistant to all 4 first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs INH, RMP, EMB and SM) were susceptible to the diterpene lactones preparation at 5 concentrations (675 mg/ml; 900 mg/ml; 1125 mg/ml; 2250 mg/ml and 3375mg/ml).
