\n\tSome Species in Central Vietnam - Zingiber

\n\t(Zingiber zerumbet Smith, Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.)

\n\tZingiber zerumbet Smith and Zingiber cassumunar Roxb. (Zingiberaceae) are the popular plants in the Central Vietnam. They are not only distributed widely but also planted in many places as a kind of spice and a traditional medicine to treat indigestion, loss of appetite, excessive gas, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

\n\tThrough the combination of gas chromatography with mass - spectrometry (GC/MS), sixteen components in the essential oils of the rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet Smith. were identified: camphene (0.34-3.31%), a-humulen 5.20–15.41%, zerumbone (41.15–77.20%). The essential oils of the rhizomes of Zingiber cassumunar Roxb. contained sabinene (16.02%), α-terpinene (4.51%), g-terpinene (5.90%), and terpinen-4-ol (24.11%) as the main components.

\n\tThrough repeated chromatography on silica gel column, one compound was isolated from the MeOH extract of the rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet Smith, and two compounds were isolated from the MeOH extract of the rhizomes of Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.

\n\tThe structures were elucidated to be zerumbone (1), 1-(E)-buta-1,3-dienyl)-2,4,5-trimethoxybenzene (2), and  zerumbone (1) by MS and NMR spectroscopic data.
