\n\tScreening on Antioxidative Effect toward Hepatoprotective Effect of some Medicinal Plants

\n

\n\tThe results of antioxidative screening of 69 extracts (successively extracted with chloroform, ethyl acetate and water) from 23 parts of use of 16 plants by DPPH reagent on TLC revealed that all of these plants possess antioxidative effect. The ethyl acetate extracts had higher effects than that of the others. Among them, the ethyl acetate extract of Mangifera indica (mango) leaves and one of its major constituent – mangiferin possessed the strongest antioxidative activities. On ex vivo hepatoprotective effect in mouse hepatocytes (prepared by modified Kiso Y.procedure), the ethyl acetate extract of mango leaves and mangiferin had equal or higher hepatoprotective effects of silymarin at the same concentrations. The highest effect of the extract and mangiferin were at concentrations of 0.1mg/L and 0.25mg/L, respectively. In hepatoprotective activity in mice intoxicated by CCl4, the ethyl acetate extract of mango leaves and mangiferin at suitable concentrations were able to reduce AST concentrations in mouse plasma better than that of silymarin. Acute toxicity experiment was also revealed that the ethyl acetate extract showed no acute toxicity on mice.
