\n\tEstrogenic Effects of Extracts from Moringa oleifera Leaves

\n\tThe study determined estrogenic effects of ethanol extract and aqueous extract from Moringa oleifera leaves on naïve mice and ovariectomized mice. The phase of the estrus cycle was determined by early vaginal opening in immature mice and by vaginal smear cytology. The weight of reproductive organs and plasma 17b-estradiol content were also determined. The results revealed that Moringa oleifera extracts induced estrogenic effects in immature mice and ovariectomized mice more significant than in naïve mice. Ovariectomized mice subjected to 15-day oral administration of ethanol extract or aqueous extract spent more time in estrus phase and showed development of uterus weight. The plasma 17β-estradiol contents in ovariectomized mice after administration of Moringa oleifera extracts were restored to the normal level as compared to untreated control. The findings will be useful for advanced study on Moringa oleifera leaves as a resource of phytoestrogens.
